AFS-Auswahl in Polen - AFS-Selection-Camp in Poland

Was für ein Wochenende! Nach fast acht Stunden Bahnfahrt von Sopot nach Krakau (immerhin durchgängig ohne Umsteigen!) wurde ich von Piotrek (vor einigen Jahren AFSer nach Frankreich), einem Ehrenamtlichen der sich bei der Durchführung von AFS-Schüleraustauschprogrammen aus und nach Polen engagiert, am Bahnhof abgeholt. Nach einem (nach der langen Zugfahrt wohltuenden) Gang durch Krakau stiegen wir dann in einen Bus, der uns nach Piekary, einem echten "Dorf" ca. 20 Minuten ausserhalb von Krakau gelegen, brachte. In Piekary war unser Ziel die Einrichtung der "Fundacja im. ks. Siemaszki", die in Zusammenarbeit mit AFS Interkulturelle Begegnungen e.V. bilaterale Schüleraustauschprogramme von und nach Deutschland durchführt.
Um nun die kommende Generation an AustauschschülerInnen aus Polen, die sich für ein Schuljahr 2007/2008 in Deutschland beworben hatten, aus der Gruppe der BewerberInnen auszuwählen, wurde dieses Wochenende veranstaltet. Hier konnten sich die AuswählerInnen (neben mir noch 10 weitere Haupt- und Ehrenamtliche MitarbeiterInnen aus Polen und Deutschland) mit Hilfe verschiedener Spiele und Aktivitäten ein detailliertes Bild von den BewerberInnen verschaffen um so am Ende die (superschwere!) Auswahl zu treffen, wer einen "Festplatz" für ein Austauschjahr in Deutschland erhalten sollte.
Zusammenfassend kann dazu gesagt werden, dass alle BewerberInnen schlichtweg toll waren - und wir (die Auswähler) am Liebsten alle nach Deutschland schicken würden, aber leider wird dieses nicht möglich sein :-(
Nichtsdestotrotz war es wohl für alle TeilnehmerInnen ein ereignisreiches und unvergessliches Wochenende, das für Einige der Beginn eines AFS-Lebenslaufes werden dürfte, der sich noch lange fortsetzen wird...
Es würde mich freuen, wenn ich dabei an der einen oder anderen Station weiter dabei sein könnte...

What a weekend!
After a close-to-eight-hour trainride from Sopot to Krakow (at least without the necessity to switch trains!) I was picked up at the trainstation from Piotrek (some years ago an AFS-exchange-student from Poland to France), a volunteer who is engaged with organizing the student-exchanges from and to Poland. After a short welcome-walk through Krakow (which was good after all the time in the train...) we caught a bus to Piekary, a real "village" about 20 minutes outside of Krakow. In Piekary our destination was the "Fundacja im. ks. Siemaszki", which is currently the cooperation-partner of AFS Interkulturelle Begegnungen e.V. in Germany with whom bilateral student exchanges are carried out.
In order to now select the participants from Poland for an Exchange year 2007/2008 in Germany this weekend was organized. As "selectors" (aside from me 10 other volunteers and staff-members from Poland and Germany) we tried to get a good impression of the applicants so that we could "select" the ones whom we can offer a place on the AFS-exchange-program to Germany.
All in all we saw, that ALL applicants where straightaway great - and as selectors we would've loved to be able to send them all to Germany - but unfortunately this will most probably not be possible :-(
Nonetheless it was a great and unforgettable weekend, and I hope to see many of the applicants some time again on some occasions...

Fotokurs in Wrzeszcz Teil 1 - Photocourse in Wrzeszcz Part 1

Was macht man an einem Wochenende an dem man noch nichts vorhat? Man macht was. An diesem Wochenende bedeutet das die Teilnahme an einem Digitalfotokurs in Wrzeszcz (na, wer kann's korrekt aussprechen?!).
Wrzeszcz ist übrigens der (heutige) Stadtteil von Danzig, in dem Günter Grass geboren wurde und einige Handlungen aus seinen Büchern stattfinden. Die Tänzerin ist übrigens inspiriert von einer Figur aus der "Blechtrommel"...
Davon abgesehen: Viel Spaß beim Anschauen der Bilder und vielleicht spürt ihr etwas von der heutigen Atmosphäre von Wrzeszcz und unserem Fotokurs.

What do you do on a weekend on which you don't have any plans? You do something. This weekend this means taking part in a Digital-Photography-Course in Wrzeszcz (try to pronounce it and have fun!).
By the way, Wrzeszcz is (todays) part of Gdansk, in which the (german) nobel-prize-author Günter Grass was born and where several of his stories are taking place. By the way: the dancig girl is one of the figures from his (probably best-known) book "The tin drum"...
Except for that: Enjoy the pictures and maybe you can catch some of Wrzeszcz's (and the courses') atmosphere.

Feiern - Parties

Auch in Polen durfte eine neuere "deutsche" Silvestertradition nicht fehlen: "Dinner for One" - zwar nur auf Laptopgröße - aber immerhin :-)
Even in Poland we were able to follow one of the newer "german" New Year Traditions by watching "Dinner for One" on the laptop... O.K., it wasn't Bigscreen and for some of the polish visitors not really funny, but anyway :-)




Aber anschließend setzte sich die Party in der gesamten Wohnung fort - während im Wohnzimmer getanzt wurde, unterhielten sich einige im Schlafzimmer...
But later on the party continued throughout the whole appartment - while people were dancing in the livingroom, some chatted along in the sleeping room...

Ich glaub' ich hab' zu meinem Geburtstag noch nie soooo viele Luftballons bekommen... Danke!

Ausflug an den Strand - Visit to another beach

Und wenn man mal Zeit hat und eingeladen wird -dann lässt man sich zur Not auch mal an einen anderen Strand (etwas hinter Gdynia) bringen. Auch ganz nett dort...
And if one has time and is invited - well, then one can get conviced to visit another beach in the region - just a bit past Gdynia. Not bad as well, what do you think?!
